Higher Diploma Program in Drug Control Strategies

Drug abuse poses persistent security challenges that imperil humanity, causing economic, social, security, and health repercussions. Addressing this multifaceted issue is paramount, given its complexity. In response to the pressing need to enhance national and regional capacities in drug control strategies, among other scientific priorities of NAUSS, the Higher Diploma Program in Drug Control Strategies was established in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This program adheres to international standards concerning drug and crime control as well as sustainable development goals. Its inception reflects NAUSS commitment to bridge the knowledge and skill gaps among security personnel, equipping them with modern combat techniques and comprehensive strategic planning for drug control and prevention.

1 Special Admission Requirements:

  • Holding a bachelor's degree from an accredited university, with a minimum overall grade of "good" in the relevant fields as determined by the admission committee.

Graduation Requirements

Successfully completing the required program hours with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 out of 5.00 within the specified timeframe necessary to fulfill the requirements for obtaining the academic degree.

Program Classification

  • Saudi Standard Classification of Occupations - Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.
  • United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

2 Program Objectives:

  • Equipping specialized personnel in the field of drug control with the ability to tackle contemporary challenges and foresee future trends, providing them with the latest knowledge, proactive skills, guidance, and awareness necessary for effective drug prevention in society.
  • Strengthening the proactive capabilities of law enforcement agencies in reducing both the supply and demand for drugs, implementing necessary preventive measures, and intervening appropriately to safeguard individuals, the environment, and local communities from the harmful effects of drugs. This includes contributing to the sustainability of these preventive measures and interventions.
  • Preparing specialized personnel capable of formulating drug control policies, planning their strategies; and developing high-quality, globally standardized programs in alignment with the strategies and directives of the United Nations.

3 Expected Learning Outcomes:

  • Developing proactive solutions using modern scientific methodologies for drug prevention.
  • Applying drug control practices and mechanisms effectively in real-world settings.
  • Demonstrating the ability to formulate policies and construct drug control strategies.
  • Utilizing modern strategies in drug control, including designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating relevant programs, and assessing their impact.
  • Analyzing factors contributing to the proliferation of drug-related crimes, interpret behavioral and environmental data and indicators accurately.
  • Applying the latest technologies and practices in drug control effectively.
  • Analyzing, utilizing, evaluating, and exploiting international studies and reports on drug control.
  • Acquiring knowledge of contemporary principles and trends in drug control, including procedures, tools, programs, and the essential understanding of risk factors associated with drug crimes
